Background HistoryThe Palatines were the bravest, noblest, most trustworthy, and honorable of all knights (the Paladins), in the Court of King Charlemagne in that period of history defining the end of the Dark Ages and fueling the beginning of ”the period of enlightenment”, aka., the Renaissance. During this time, the Paladins embraced Chivalry and Honor as their code of behavior; and, in so doing they initiated the Renewing the Good in Mankind” credo and helped fuel the “Great Potential “for all Mankind. The Palatines were not political or religious officials of their time. The Palatines were from the humblest of ranks, the common people, the farmers and serfs, who shared the ideal that we are all something greater than our baser primitive selves. The Palatines found their way to express this belief and to follow it through Knight apprenticing ultimately resulting in formation of the Court of Charlemagne which lasted for many generations and is still held with high regard. Paladins did not wear shiny metal armor and wave ornate shields. They used hard leather hides to make their helmets and breastplates. They wore heavy wool and cloth instead of chain mail. They clad themselves in bravery and resolve instead of armor. Paladins often took up causes to defend the weak and defenseless. They championed for the old and weak, the young and suffering alike. They fought for the principles they swore to defend, believed in and valued most. We are the New Palatines of this new age.
